Stigmata consists of a 21 meter drawing-installation running across the walls of the gallery, and also of two seperate works, Episode_I and Episode_II. The spectator is surrounded by a dreamy yet nightmarish panoramic universe, in which an enigmatic frieze of chalky girls parades against a black background.
The work confronts us with the mixed feelings of childhood where innocence, violence and threat coexist in a tender yet wild world. In this dark playground adults are absent their role being played by vulnerable and threatening creatures, stigmatized by repressed girlish fantasies.
In an effort to recall memories and feelings of childhood the artist turns to chalk drawing, sketching, outlining, erasing and smudging. The rough figures emerging from darkness take part to a ‘cinematic’ composition of unpredicted views, sudden changes in perspective and mysterious lighting that brings out fears which in daylight are kept well hidden.
